As politicians in both Cuba and the United States push for normalizing relations between the two nations, the Obama administration announced on Friday that the US government will allow the Cuban private sector to sell goods to the United States. This represents a critical, diplomatic step, significantly loosening the trade embargo that has been in place for over half a century.
There are still, however, several exceptions. The State Department list still bans US entrepreneurs from importing food and agricultural products, alcohol, minerals, chemicals, textiles, machinery, vehicles, arms, and ammunition.
So, for the time being, still no word on when you can buy those cigars.
