MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev on Saturday discussed the importance of implementing ceasefire in east Ukraine's Donbas region on time, Nazarbayev's website said.
"The heads of the states noted the extreme importance of implementing the ceasefire agreement at the appointed time (00:00 February 15, 2015) by the conflicting sides," the message stated.
Putin and Nazarbayev previously discussed international cooperation to regulate the crisis in Ukraine.
On Friday, it was announced that the Kazakh capital of Astana could hold the next Normandy format meeting on Ukrainian reconciliation, comprising leaders of Russia, Ukraine, France and Germany.
The last Normandy format meeting held in Minsk on Wednesday and early Thursday resulted in a new political deal aimed at stopping the deadly conflict in eastern Ukraine that has claimed lives of more than 5,400 people since April 2014.
The peace agreement includes a ceasefire between Kiev forces and independence supporters in eastern Ukraine from midnight local time on February 15 (February 14, 22:00 GMT).
