Orange County sheriff's investigators said as many 900 juveniles tried to get in while 200 were successful before security closed the outside gates. Police released videocam footage from the theater's closed circuit cameras.
Fights started to break out outside the theater among the hundreds who were not able to enter the theater and the sound of gun shots were reported. At least one student was robbed at gunpoint and another was arrested for assault and resisting arrest.
Authorities suspect the melee might have been planned out via social media, like something akin to an actual “flash mob.” Social media has been known to be used for rioting and burglary.
