MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Islamic State (ISIL) militants have burned 45 people to death in the western Iraqi town of al-Baghdadi, local police chief said Tuesday.
According to Col. Qasim Obeidi, quoted by the BBC, some of those killed were security forces members.
Obeidi also said that a compound housing the families of security personnel was under attack.
The ISIL jihadist group has been battling for the control of al-Baghdadi for months. Last week, the head of the council of the Iraqi Anbar province said that ISIL militants had finally seized most of the town.
Islamic State launched an offensive in Iraq in June 2014 and has since captured large parts of the country.
