MOSCOW (Sputnik) – A British National Health Service (NHS) employee has been evacuated from West Africa's Sierra Leone on suspicion of being infected with the Ebola virus, The Telegraph reported Tuesday.
The female British Red Cross worker is being evacuated to Britain in a commercial medical jet, according to the newspaper.
The Telegraph said that the woman had been splashed in the eye with contagious body fluids while changing her protective medical garments.
So far, UK authorities have confirmed only one case of Ebola in the country. In December 2014, a Scottish nurse tested positive for the deadly virus following her return from Sierra Leone. By the end of January she had fully recovered.
According to the World Health Organization, the current outbreak of the deadly Ebola disease, which began in December 2013, has killed 9,162 people in the three most affected West African countries of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
