Speaking on Romanian television, the country's former president Traian Basescu stated that Romania should not intervene in Ukraine, saying that the issue is so complicated that even the biggest political players cannot find a solution to it.
"It is a soup we should not stir," he said, also calling Ukraine Romania's greatest security threat.
Basescu added that he believes that Ukraine should retain its territorial integrity, but that following the Minsk talks, it faces a prospect of having an unrecognized state entity within its borders, as Moldova does with Transnistria.
Basescu also stated that Russia is not a threat to Romania, but added that "Romania should never again border Russia."
Traisan Basescu was President of Romania's from 2004 to 2014, and previously held government positions as Mayor of Bucharest and the country's Minister of Transport.
