Taliban militants are expected to take part in the peace talks with the United States, set to be held in Qatar on Thursday and Friday, a source within the Afghan Taliban said. The information was confirmed by high-ranking Pakistani military officials and diplomats.
US forces toppled the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2001. In December 2014, the NATO-led mission International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), tasked with tackling insurgency in the country, was replaced with a non-combat mission.
