BENGALURU (Sputnik) — Russia's Sukhoi Civil Aircraft company and Nepalese airline Bishwo Airways have signed a letter of intent for the supply of Sukhoi SuperJet-100 planes (SSJ-100) to Nepal, a spokesperson of the Russian United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) told RIA Novosti Thursday.
The announcement was released on the second day of Aero India international aerospace exhibition, held in the Indian city of Bengaluru.
"It is expected that further consultations will result in the signing of a contract for delivery of five SSJ-100 aircraft in a two-class layout with 93 seats each. In accordance with a tentative agreement, the first aircraft could be delivered in 2017," the UAC spokesperson said Thursday.
According to the spokesperson, the deal might be concluded during the Dubai Airshow exhibition in November.
Superjet-100 is a short-haul passenger airliner. The plane made its maiden flight in May 2008 and was made available for commercial exploitation in 2011. Aside from Russian companies, the plane is also popular among airlines in Mexico, Laos and Indonesia.
