MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russian gas has started flowing to the territory of self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Luhansk (DPR and LPR), LPR chief Igor Plotnitsky told RIA Novosti Thursday.
“The gas has been flowing, everything is fine,” he said. “No problems at the moment.”
Earlier on Thursday, Ukraine’s national oil and gas company, Naftogaz, said that gas deliveries to the country’s war-torn Donbas had been suspended because of damages to the infrastructure.
The company added that it was ready to begin reconstruction works as soon as fighting in the region ceases.
However, according to the authorities of the two self-proclaimed republics in Donbas, Kiev had long considered discontinuing gas supplies to the region. Neither LPR nor DPR have enough gas supplies to last until Friday morning.
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev had instructed Russia’s energy ministry and Gazprom to prepare proposals on gas supplies to Ukraine.
