NEW DELHI (Sputnik) — The recent attempt by the European Union Ambassador to India to make New Delhi engage with Russia over peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict is a "case of sheer duplicity," Russia's Embassy in India said Thursday.
The Russian Embassy noted that it was not the people of Donetsk and Luhansk, but the Kiev authorities who started the bloody conflict in Ukraine's southeast. The statement added that the EU must reconsider its own approach to reconciliation of the Ukraine crisis.
"The European Union should retrospect on its own policy of appeasement instead of trying to seek India's services in persuading Russia to do something," the document said.
The Russian Embassy stressed that relations between Moscow and New Delhi are alien to persuasions of the kind.
"Our special and privileged strategic partnership has no relation to the West's blunders in their policies towards the Ukraine and Kiev's self-induced crisis," the Embassy stressed.
"A piece of friendly advice – do not try to meddle in Russia-India relations. They are immune to such kind of unsolicited and impolite interventions from outside," the document concluded.
On Wednesday, EU Ambassador to India and Bhutan Joao Cravinho stated that New Delhi should use its privileged relations with Russia to take part in peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian conflict by expressing concerns in its interactions with Moscow over the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the maintenance of the ceasefire agreement in Donbas.
