According to the statement, the aid, delivered on Thursday, includes essential hygiene items, warm clothes, blankets, condensed milk powder, drinking water, and medical supplies.
"We hope that the assistance provided will alleviate the suffering of the neediest, in particular, those staying in the makeshift shelters," Vanno Noupech, UN High Commissioner for Refugees' Deputy Representative for Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine, was quoted as saying by UNICEF.
Neal Walker, UN Humanitarian Coordinator, was quoted as saying by the organization that it was imperative to scale up efforts to help the population of eastern Ukraine.
Giovanna Barberis, UNICEF Representative in Ukraine, emphasized the critical necessity to deliver humanitarian aid to as many people and children in need as possible.
According to the UNICEF statement, the United Nations is scaling up assistance in areas of difficult access and in the zones that have already been reached.
Russia has also been delivering humanitarian aid to eastern Ukraine, having sent 14 humanitarian convoys to the troubled region. So far, Moscow has provided more than 18,000 tons of aid to the suffering population of Ukraine's east.
