Police managed to diffuse two explosive devices after a car bomb went off in southern Thailand leaving 13 people wounded, according to police. The explosion rocked a Buddhist neighborhood in the Narathiwat province, where Muslims are a majority.

Restaurants and shops in the busy commercial district were badly damaged in the explosion, which took place after the Friday prayers.

The unidentified assailants, believed to be Muslim insurgents, planted another bomb at a restaurant and in a motorcycle nearby. Southern Thailand has been plagued by violence for more than a decade.
