Residents of the town of Gamboru in northeastern Nigeria have finally returned to their homes after Chadian soldiers reclaimed the town from Boko Haram terrorists, AFP reports.
People returned to the town under military escort. “We met a ghost town strewn with burnt vehicles, destroyed buildings and emptied homes,” one of the residents told AFP.
After intense fighting, Chadian troops crushed the terrorists and pushed them away from Gamboru and its surrounding areas.
Boko Haram has been ravaging across the region since 2009, killing more than 13,000 people and making over a million homeless.
