At least 10 activists were arrested in Nantes and at least another 15 were arrested in Toulouse. A police officer also suffered broken ribs.

Protesters carried signs saying “Stop police violence” and commemorated a rally one year earlier in which tens of thousands of people rallied against the building of a new airport in Nantes. Violence clashes broke out then and three demonstrators each lost the use of an eye from flash bombs employed by the police.

Local residents had argued the airport was too costly and would damage the environment. Those protests grew to include farmers, ecologists, and anarchists who call themselves ZADists – using the French acronym for "development zone" or ZAD.

In October, Remi Fraisse was taking protesting with other ZAD members against a dam project in the Testet wetlands. Following a tense standoff with police, he was later discovered dead with a wound to his back. ZADists blamed a police grenade.

Since then, protests have been held in his name. Saturday, protesters held a banner with saying "I am Remi and all the other victims of the police…We do not forget, we do not forgive."
