TEL-AVIV (Sputnik) – The mayor of Jerusalem Nir Barkat personally took part in the detention of a Palestinian who attacked an Israeli man with a knife, a spokesperson for the head of municipality told RIA Novosti Sunday.
"Mayor Barkat personally took part in the detention," the spokesperson said.
According to the local media, Barkat was passing by in his car with his bodyguard. The mayor and his guard apprehended the attacker after he stabbed the ultra-Orthodox Jewish man.
The incident has been classified as a terrorist attack by local authorities.
The perpetrator was an 18-year-old Palestinian man who was in the Jerusalem municipality without authorization. The victim was hospitalized.
