MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A sheriff and a deputy were shot and rushed to hospital in Clarkesville, Georgia, while three others, including a former policeman suspected of carrying out the attack, were found dead, local media reported Monday.
Sheriff Joey Terrell and deputy William Zigan were responding to a domestic call at the ex-officer's house when they were fired upon, according the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
"As EMS and law enforcement arrived, he started shooting at Habersham County Sheriff's deputies," Capt. Mark Perry of Georgia State Patrol was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
Three others are confirmed dead, including the suspected gunman, identified as former police officer Anthony Giaquinta. Giaquinta reportedly shot his ex-wife before firing at the officers.
The suspected attacker and another man were later found dead at Giaquinta's house. It is yet unclear whether he shot himself.
