MOSCOW (Sputnik) – A 19-yerar-old Palestinian was shot dead by Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers in clashes at a refugee camp near the West Bank town of Bethlehem, a Palestinian hospital official said on Tuesday.
According to the hospital official, cited by local media, IDF soldiers entered the Deheisheh refugee camp on an arrest mission overnight Tuesday provoking confrontations with local residents. The refugees began throwing stones, in response to which the Israeli forces opened fire.
As a result of the incident at least four Palestinians were injured. One of the protesters, identified as Jihad Shehadi Jaafari, died from loss of blood at a hospital. One of the IDF soldier was also reported wounded in the clash.
The West Bank, as well as East Jerusalem, partially occupied by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war, and the Gaza Strip, are the territories where the Palestinians seek to create an independent state.
