WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – A US State Department employee is under arrest, and will be placed on administrative leave, the Department's spokesperson Jen Psaki announced on Wednesday.
"We are aware that a State Department employee has been arrested and charges have been issued," Psaki stated, stressing that for privacy reasons and for reasons concerning the Department’s personnel, they are not able to confirm the identity of the individual or the specific charges.
Psaki explained that the US State Department is following standard procedures in this case.
"His security clearance will be suspended and he will be put on administrative leave while this proceeds to its end through any judicial process," she said.
According to a report by FoxNews, the arrested employee is a senior official in charge of federal counterterrorism programs, who was arrested on Tuesday morning for allegedly soliciting sex from a minor.
