MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Western countries, that facilitate the creation of terrorist groups, are primarily concerned with terror attacks not happening on their territories, Tugrul Turkes, the deputy chairman of Turkey's right-wing Nationalist Movement Party, told Sputnik on Wednesday.
"Western countries only hope that terror attacks do not happen on their territory, while the fact that they facilitate the formation of terrorist groups is far from being their major concern," Turkes said.
He said that the Islamic State (ISIL) extremist group, operating in Syria and Iraq, has been joined by new members partially due to the West's activity and coordination.
"This approach can hardly be called fair… I am not trying to justify the Turkish government, which is also responsible for what is happening nowadays in Syria. But I think that the West has no right to criticize Turkey," Turkes told Sputnik.
Syria is currently in a state of civil war, with government forces fighting armed rebel groups, including the Islamic State.
Citizens from western nations, including the United States and the European Union, are reported to have joined the extremist group to fight alongside the militants.
