WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – US Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Roberta Jacobson will lead a US government delegation to Cuba on February 27 in an additional effort to restore diplomatic relations with Havana, the US State Department said in a press release on Wednesday.
“On Friday, February 27, the [US] Department of State will host the second round of talks to re-establish diplomatic relations between the United States and Cuba,” the press release read.
“These talks continue the dialogue initiated by the parties on January 22 in Havana, Cuba, and are a key step in implementing the new direction in US-Cuba relations announced by US President [Barack] Obama on December 17, 2014,” the release said.
Obama announced at the end of 2014 his new policy to normalize relations between Washington and Havana, which includes easing travel and trade restrictions and reopening a US embassy in Cuba.
