WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Senator Dan Coats has launched a new initiative to highlight government waste and recommend spending cuts on a weekly basis, according to a statement issued by the senator’s office on Wednesday.
“Coats announced that he plans to speak on the Senate floor each week and highlight tangible spending cuts that can be made by Congress,” the statement said.
The first “Waste of the Week” speech saw Coats describe a loophole he said allows people to cheat Social Security and unemployment benefits, costing the government $5.7 billion annually.
US President Barack Obama proposed a $3.9 trillion budget earlier this month.
