Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said earlier in the day that the Russian Energy Ministry and the country's energy giant Gazprom were in constant contact with their European partners regarding the matter of gas deliveries.
In June 2014, Gazprom suspended gas supplies to Ukraine due to Kiev's debt that exceeded $5 billion at the time. The company resumed gas deliveries in December after Kiev had paid off part of its debt and agreed to make prepayments for deliveries in future.
On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscow would suspend gas deliveries to Ukraine once again unless Kiev made a further prepayment.
