WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US House of Representatives will wait for the Senate to pass the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding bill before considering whether to support the version of the legislation that does not include immigration restrictions, US House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner said.
"The US House has done its work. And when the US Senate does its work, we'll let you know how we are going to proceed," Boehner said on Thursday.
In a Tuesday press conference, US Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid blamed the Republican Party for threatening a repeat of the 2012 government shutdown.
Members of the US Congress have until February 27 to pass a bill to fund for the DHS, or face a partial shutdown of the agency.
US Senate Democrats have blocked previously proposed DHS funding bills from coming to a vote because Republicans had included provisions barring funding for Obama’s November 2014 executive order, which provides deportation relief for millions of illegal immigrants living in the United States.
