The British star was acting out a scene in central Rome when his Aston Martin ran into a pothole, the film crew told La Repubblica.
The mishap with 007 appears to have hit a nerve with Romans, who have long-since lamented the terrible state of roads in the capital.
“The potholes are able to put James Bond out of use, let alone common citizens,” fumed Lamberto Santini the president of consumer rights group Adoc, who joined in the angry chorus of discontent.
Filming of the latest 007 edition, Spectre, is due to continue in Rome until March 12.
