Over 43 percent of Spaniards said unemployment is the most important problem in the country. And rightfully so, considering that the country has one of the highest unemployment rates in the European Union (EU) – 23.7 percent. The situation is even worse for young Spaniards, as 52 percent of those under the age of 25 are currently unemployed.
Despite the recent increase in anti-terrorist measures across the EU and overall discontent with immigration, Spaniards see these two issues as relatively insignificant – only 3.9 and 1.2 percent, respectively, were concerned about these issues.
In contrast, terrorism is a more important issue for other European nations. According to polls, 23 percent of Germans, 18 percent of French, 15 percent of Britons are concerned about terrorism, the Local reports.
