MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Bodies of 10 Ukrainian soldiers were recovered at the Donetsk airport during the visit of the monitors of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the organization reported Saturday.

"The SMM [Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine] monitored a visit to the Donetsk airport by the Joint Centre for Control and Co-ordination (JCCC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). A 'DPR' commander said that the bodies of 10 Ukrainian soldiers had been recovered," the OSCE said in a report.

The OSCE said that, according to the Donetsk forces, these bodies would be transferred to a morgue in Donetsk and then returned to Ukrainian authorities.

The strategically important Donetsk airport has long been a hot spot for fighting between Kiev forces and local militia, with the building being completely destroyed by heavy fighting.

On February 26, the DPR Defense Ministry said that rescue workers, militia and volunteers from the republic had found at least 30 bodies of Ukrainian servicemen while removing debris at the airport.

On February 25, Joan Audierne, the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Donetsk, said the organization's workers were ready to assist in the removal of debris at the airport.
