Marine Le Pen, the leader of the French right-wing party Front National (FN), said she is confident that the Russian judicial system will conduct a fair investigation into the death of politician Boris Nemtsov.
“I trust the Russian judicial system, there are no reasons why I shouldn’t. Obviously, everyone wants to find, arrest and condemn these cowardly assassins who shot him [Nemtsov] in the back. I expect that justice will prevail. We must be careful and let the police and judges to do their job,” Le Pen told TV Channel France 3.
Earlier, Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin, said that the Russian leader was immediately informed about the assassination of Boris Nemtsov. Putin then expressed his condolences to the parents and relatives of the deceased and told the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Federal Security Service (FSB) to create a special investigation unit to find out who was behind the killing of Nemtsov.
Nemtsov was killed on Friday night in central Moscow. The politician was walking with a female companion across the Zamoskvoretskiy bridge when assassins opened fire from a car driving nearby.
