“We see that they [Washington] are not satisfied with the [February 12] Minsk agreements. This is unfortunate. They would like to have them revised,” he said.
Ryabkov said that US policy toward Ukraine does not stipulate searching for ways to reach a peaceful formula that would satisfy both warring sides. Washington wants to help “a war party in Kiev” to win the battle.
The measures, among other points, stipulated a ceasefire that came into force on February 15.
The military conflict in eastern Ukraine claimed lives of over 6,000 people, according to the most recent United Nations estimates.
US Should Influence ‘Clientele’ in Kiev to Settle Crisis in Ukraine
"We repeat to our American colleagues that if they are genuinely interested in normalizing the situation in Ukraine, they mustn't rewrite the [Minsk] agreements, but they must influence their 'clientele' in Kiev," Ryabkov said.
On February 1, US President Barack Obama said in an interview to CNN channel that Washington "had brokered a deal to transition power in Ukraine." Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Obama's remarks proved Washington's direct involvement in the Ukrainian coup.
A White House source told RIA Novosti on February 3 that Obama's remarks about the transition of power in Ukraine referred to the joint efforts of the United States, Russia and the EU to help Ukraine move toward democracy.
The majority in the US Congress has argued for providing lethal military aid to Ukraine, and passed legislation calling on Obama to arm Kiev but the US president has so far not enacted the legislation.
