MOSCOW (Sputnik) — UK authorities' tough stance on immigration leads to "new forms of racism" spreading across the country, The Independent reported citing a study based on a survey carried out by research company Ipsos MORI.
According to the study, certain policies, such as billboard vans warning undocumented immigrants to leave or face arrest and images on Twitter with suspects led away by officials, have resulted in migrants becoming subjects of racial prejudice.
Various migrant groups are said to have become increasingly suspicious of each other, as hostilities grow between asylum seekers, refugees and Eastern Europeans.
According to The Independent, the study drew on a survey conducted by Ipsos MORI of more than 2,400 people after the deployment of vans with signs telling immigrants to "go home or face arrest" in 2013. The Home Office later said the campaign led to 11 people leaving the UK.
According to February 2015 data by the Office of National Statistics, net immigration to the UK stood at 298,000 in the year ending September 2014.
