Russian forces from the Eastern Command held live fire exercises with the cutting-edge S-400 Triumph air defense missile system in the Volga region. The S-400 successfully intercepted target missiles, mimicking an incoming enemy launch.
The S-400 Triumph is designed to intercept any aerial targets, including strategic bombers, fighter jets and stealth aircraft, as well as cruise and ballistic missiles at a distance of up to 400 kilometers (250 miles) and an altitude of up to 30 kilometers (18.6 miles).
The S-400 Triumph, put into service in 2007, is produced by Russia's largest defense contractor, the Almaz-Antey design bureau. It is ideal for protecting cities, military facilities and other sensitive areas. A single S-400 can engage as many as 80 targets simultaneously with 160 missiles.
