MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The leaders of Russia, Ukraine, France and Germany discussed the questions regarding supplies of Russian gas to Ukraine, Kremlin press service said Tuesday.
"The leaders of four countries exchanged opinions on a range of issues regarding supplies of Russian gas to Ukraine, " the statement said.
Under the current deal, Russia's gas supplier Gazprom has been delivering gas to Ukraine at a discount of $100 per 1,000 cubic meters since December.
In exchange, Kiev was to pay off $1.45 billion of its gas debt immediately after the deal was reached in late October 2014, and an additional $1.65 billion by the end of 2014.
Gas deliveries to Ukraine were suspended for six months last summer because of Kiev's outstanding debt until the sides reached a deal in the fall and switched to a prepayment system.
The talks on "summer package" are expected to kick off in late March, according to Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak.
