“US and Coalition military forces continued to attack ISIL [Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant] terrorists in Syria, using fighter and bomber aircraft to conduct four airstrikes,” the statement, issued on Monday, said. “Separately, US and Coalition military forces conducted five airstrikes in Iraq, using attack, fighter and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL terrorists.”
Airstrikes in Iraq took out an ISIL tactical unit, three boats, and two vehicles near Al Asad; a tactical unit near Bayji; multiple ISIL checkpoints and fighting positions near Kirkuk; a fighting position, two vehicles, and two engineer equipment pieces near Mosul; and a compound near Rawah, the statement added.
The airstrikes were conducted as a part of Operation Inherent Resolve, whose goal is to eliminate Islamic State militants and the threats they pose to Iraq, Syria, the Middle East, and the rest of the world, the statement said.
