“As of today, Ukraine’s Naftogaz’s debt before Gazprom stands at $2.4 billion, of which $2.2 billion is the amount of debt for gas delivered in 2014 and around $200 million in penalties,” Novak said on Russia’s Rossiya-24 television.
Moscow is prepared to review the possibility of providing Kiev a discount on gas deliveries for the second quarter of 2015 within the current contract between Ukraine’s Naftogaz and Russia’s Gazprom, Russian Energy Minister said.
“As a whole, the current contract contains the possibility of providing discounts, as was also provided for in the past in 2013 and 2014,” Novak said on Russia’s Rossiya-24 television.
Novak explained that much depends on the current situation on the market and from the competitiveness of Russian gas on the market and could be theoretically agreed upon separately.
“If the according requests arise from the side of the consumer, the Ukrainian side, then the Russian government may review the situation, taking into account that the discount wouldn’t be on the price, but on the decrease [in deliveries] and discounts on export duties,” Novak said.
The current so-called Winter Package for gas deliveries ends in April 2015.
