WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US President Barack Obama signed and sent a notice to US Congress to continue the national emergency with respect to the situation in Ukraine for one more year, given the threats to United States national security, according to the White House.
“I have determined that it is necessary to continue the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13660 with respect to Ukraine,” Obama wrote in his notice on Tuesday.
“The actions and policies of persons that undermine democratic processes and institutions in Ukraine; threaten its peace, security, stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity; and contribute to the misappropriation of its assets… continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States,” he said.
Obama also said that the Russian government’s actions and policies, including Crimea’s reunification with Russia, continue to pose threat to US national security, according to the White House.
