WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Senator Ted Cruz introduced the Health Care Choice Act to reduce healthcare costs and replace US President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, according to a statement released by the Senator’s press office.
"Every last word of Obamacare must be repealed," Cruz said on Tuesday. "The Health Care Choice Act will reduce costs, force insurers to compete for business and empower consumers to choose a health plan that meets their needs.”
The new Act also amends the Public Health Service Act that allows insurance policies approved in one state to be sold in any other state, if the health plan and insurer comply with basic requirements regarding fraud and abuse.
Cruz said the Administration has done nothing to prepare for an upcoming court decision that could leave millions of Americans unable to afford insurance.
“Republicans must offer the American people alternatives that lower costs and break the status quo that favors big government and big health care business over hardworking Americans. The Health Care Choice Act is one step in that direction,” Cruz said.
The White House insists that the Affordable Care Act is a much-needed law that prohibits insurance companies from discriminating against people with pre-existing conditions, saves money and ensures higher quality care.
