Opponents of the group threw stones and eggs at Pegida members during the march. A number of people were injured, including one policeman and a car was damaged. Ten people were arrested for causing bodily harm, damaging property and assault, the Stuttgarter Zeitung relayed.
The demonstration started at 6:30 PM (17:30 GMT). About 200 Pegida supporters took part in the march, while some 500 opponents to the movement also turned out. Order was maintained during the demonstration by 500 policemen.
Pegida is a Dresden-based political movement that has been organizing actions against the perceived islamization of Europe since October 2014, when the group gathered for the first time in the center of Dresden to protest against radical Islam and the influx of migrants to Germany.
Every Pegida meeting is accompanied by the meeting of its opponents, who support multiculturalism and welcome migration. Media reports emphasize that the number of opponents usually overwhelmingly outnumber Pegida demonstrators.
During the first Pediga demonstration in Karlsruhe last week, 200 Pegida supporters and 700 Pegida opponents gathered in the center of town. Local police said that Tuesday's demonstration was more aggressive than last week's, as cited by Stuttgarter Zeitung.
On Monday, a Pegida meeting gathered 6,200 people in Dresden. In February 2015, the group held several meetings across Europe, including in the UK, Austria and in a number of German towns.
