MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Former Ukrainian Finance Minister Yuriy Kolobov, accused of embezzling millions of dollars, has been arrested in Spain, Ukraine's interior ministry said Wednesday.
"Yes, former finance minister Kolobov was detained in Spain. We have no further details as for now," ministry spokeswoman Larissa Volkova told RIA Novosti.
Earlier in the day, Spanish media reported that Kolobov had been detained in the town of Altea in the east of the country.
The former politician, who served as Ukraine's finance minister from 2012 to 2014 under then-president Viktor Yanukovich, is wanted by Interpol at the request of Ukrainian prosecutors.
Kolobov allegedly abused his office and obtained millions of hryvnia in a criminal scheme alongside other high-ranking officials.
