MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Governor of Russia's Sakhalin Region Alexander Khoroshavin denied accusations of bribery during preliminary court hearings in Moscow on Wednesday, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported from the court room.
Earlier in the day, Khoroshavin was brought to Moscow's Basmanny District Court to decide on the measure of restraint.
Khoroshavin as well as his aide Andrei Ikramov are suspected in involvement in a bribery scheme while choosing a contractor for construction of a power unit at the South-Sakhalin thermal power plant.
Sakhalin governor reportedly received a $5.6-million bribe, an investigator in the Basmanny Court said Wednesday.
