WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The common Ferguson, Missouri, Police Department (FPD) practice of using Tasers against local residents is dangerous, US Attorney General Eric Holder told journalists.
“The police department’s routine use of Tasers was found to be not merely unconstitutional, but abusive and dangerous,” Holder said on Wednesday.
Almost 90 percent of force was directed against African Americans, the report said.
“This behavior not only exacerbates tensions in its own right; it has the effect of stifling community confidence that’s absolutely vital for effective policing,” Holder added.
The killing of Michael Brown stirred mass protests in Ferguson and in cities across the United States that focused the nation’s attention on police brutality and race relations.
