MOSCOW (Sputnik) Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Thursday she had asked authorities to release emails from her tenure as Secretary of State amid allegations that she used her personal address for State Department issues.

"I want the public to see my email. I asked [the] State to release them. They said they will review them for release as soon as possible," Clinton posted on her Twitter account.

On late Monday night The New York Times reported, citing sources in the US State Department, that Clinton used a personal email address for department business while she was Secretary of State between 2009 and 2013.

Clinton reportedly did not have an official email address while she occupied the post.

According to the story, her aides did not take any steps to preserve Clinton's official email correspondence on department servers, in breach of the Federal Records Act.

Nick Merrill, Clinton's spokesman, said she complied with all government regulations, the newspaper reported.

Hillary Clinton is expected to announce her candidacy for Democratic president of the United States.
