Patrick H. Willems, a fan-filmmaker, has created a hilariously bizarre parody on the 2000 superhero film X-Men, which was inspired by the works of Wes Anderson, the director of The Grand Budapest Hotel.
So, what would Wes Anderson's X-men movie look like? Patrick Willems has made an attempt to find out in his new trailer, "The Uncanny X-Men."
Wolverine, Cyclops, Angel, Beast, Storm, Magneto, Jean Grey – all of them took part in Willems' version. Undoubtedly, the film conveys the atmosphere of Anderson's movies as well as his unique visual style. The parody has all the elements of an Anderson film, including its deadpan humor, odd and "slightly mad" characters and a pompous narrator.
Bobby Drake (Iceman) is the main character of the parody piece, which depicts his first day in Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. However, although the young man seems to be all fingers and thumbs, he gets ready to "survive the experience," and to meet the demonic evildoer Magneto, who is dressed in the trailer like a 1960s hipster.
The parody is accompanied by a British retro-soundtrack, again a reference to Anderson's unforgettable style. Willems also used a number of the director's cinematic tropes, including jumpsuits from Bottle Rocket and a house from The Royal Tenenbaums.
It's worth mentioning that The Uncanny X-Men is not the first parody trailer of the talented fan-film-maker. Together with his team, Willems also made "What if Tommy Wiseau Directed 'Batman'?", "What if Sergio Leone Directed 'The Punisher'?" and many other hilarious mash-ups.
In a short video, Willems unveils how the hilarious X-men superhero parody was made:
