Lippert suffered wounds to the face and hand that are said to be not life-threatening. He is recuperating in a Seoul hospital after the attack, in which a man identified as Kim Ki-jong slashed him with a razor blade.
Police are investigating whether there are links between the attack and previous visits Kim had made to North Korea, Reuters reported.
