Naturally, this has has upset some people at the school.
"I hope that Cottonwood would realize the seriousness of having a very powerful and destructive idea as the theme for a prom,” an anonymous student told local media.
Naturally, conservative media went on the attack.
"No word yet on whether the school will go for complete authenticity and imprison anyone who disagrees with the student council,” wrote the Washington Times.
However, the idea received wide support on social media.

The executive director of the preparatory school, Sam Obenshain, told local station KRQE he plans on discussing the plan with the students and let them know there could be “negative” reactions.
"We want to make sure that we honor the students' voices, but at the same time use it as a learning experience for them," he said.
