The infamous footpath “Caminito del Rey”, or “King’s Pathway”, in El Chorro, Malaga, is a narrow one meter wide walkway originally built for hydroelectric plant workers in 1905. It extends for three kilometers and rises over 100 meters above a local river.
King Alfonso XIII crossed it in 1921, thus granting the pathway its present name.
The walkway was closed for security reasons following several hikers’ deaths in 1999-2000. Many regard “Caminito del Rey” as the most dangerous path in the world.
