"Obviously, it is necessary to recall the events of February 2014. There was an electoral process of democratic renewal in the country, and this process was stopped and there was a coup," Schaffhauser told reporters in Strasbourg.
According to the French politician, the West is "trying to legitimize the coup", however, "this does not stop it from being a coup, which was prepared and conducted by representatives of US intelligence."
"The purpose of our trip is to unite European deputies, to obtain an objective picture of what is happening," he said.
In February last year, former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych was ousted after months of major protests in Ukraine's capital, Kiev.
Following the overthrow, an armed conflict broke out in eastern Ukraine, when Kiev launched a military operation against local independence supporters who opposed the new government.
