MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Members of the European Parliament are prohibited to reveal the details of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), member of the European Parliament Marina Albiol told Sputnik Thursday.
“They have made me sign the confidentiality declaration which prohibits to reveal the content,” Albiol said.
The TTIP is a deal currently negotiated by the European Union and the United States, which aims at eliminating trade barriers in a number of economic sectors to facilitate trade between the two regions.
“I could not even bring a pen,” Albiol told Sputnik.
Thousands of Europeans have signed petitions, urging to stop the negotiations on trade deal between Washington and Brussels. Many experts claim that the agreement would negatively impact the European Union's economy.
According to the recent study conducted by the US Tufts University, the TTIP can lead to the European Union loosing as many as 600,000 workplaces. France is expected to suffer the most from the new agreement, with each French worker losing $5,800 of income annually.
