WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US President Barack Obama announced he would nominate Ian Kelly as next Ambassador to Georgia, the White House said in a press release.
“President Obama announced his intent to nominate the following individuals to key Administration posts: Ian C. Kelly, Nominee for Ambassador to Georgia,” the press release, issued on Thursday, stated.
Kelly has served as US representative to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and as Director of the Office of Russian Affairs at the US State Department’s Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs among other high-ranking positions.
Kelly also held the position of spokesperson at the State Department’s Bureau of Public Affairs from 2009 to 2010.
The outgoing US Ambassador to Georgia, Richard Norland, has been serving in that position since 2012.
