ATHENS (Sputnik) – Greece's newly-elected president Prokopis Pavlopoulos will be sworn in at a ceremony in the country's parliament on Friday.
The new president will give the traditional oath on a Bible that will be administered by the Greek Archbishop.
Pavlopoulos, who is Greece's former interior minister, will replace Karolos Papoulias, who headed the Greek government for 10 years.
The Greek parliament had failed to elect a new president three times. The last attempt was made on December 29, 2014 and in line with the Greek Constitution, a general election was held in the country within a month of the failed vote.
On January 25, the left-wing Syriza party that promised to revise Greece's austerity measures, won snap parliamentary elections in the country.
