The number of confirmed dead after the collapse of a factory in Bangladesh has reached seven, with scores more thought to be trapped under the debris after the structure caved in on Thursday afternoon.
The cement factory is located in the port city of Mongla, 200km south-west of the capital Dhaka., and is reportedly run by an army-affiliated welfare organization. Soldiers and sailors from Mongla town are helping the emergency services with the rescue effort.
According to early reports, around 40 people were rescued shortly after the roof collapsed, and many of the survivors were hospitalized. Many more of the 150 people thought to be working at the site at the time of the accident, including on the roof construction, are feared trapped in the rubble.
