WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States and Poland will carry out joint missile drills later in March amid increased NATO activities in Eastern Europe, the US Department of Defense announced in a press release.
“US and Polish forces will conduct an exercise later this month involving a US Patriot missile battery and Poland’s 3rd Warsaw Air Defense Missile Brigade,” the press release, used on Friday, read.
Moreover, US Abrams main battle tanks with personnel, as well as two groups of US paratroopers will arrive in the Estonian town of Tapa at the end of this week to participate in the Siil 2015 military exercises.
The United States already delivered more than 120 armoured vehicles, including Abrams main battle tanks and Bradley armoured vehicles to Latvia on Monday.
Operation Atlantic Resolve was designed to reassure NATO allies, demonstrate freedom of movement and “deter regional aggression on the eastern flank of NATO,” according to the Pentagon.
NATO has been strengthening its military presence along Russia’s western border amid the Ukrainian crisis. The West has been accusing Russia of meddling in Ukraine’s affairs.
Moscow has repeatedly stressed that it is not involved in the situation in Ukraine and has expressed concern over the build-up of NATO forces along its borders.
